Final Project Part 1 – Segmentation and product development
Step 1. Go online and research information in the Mecklenburg county area. Identify and develop a strategic segmentation within Gen Z or Millennials in the minority market in the Mecklenburg county area. Describe the segment you want to reach with a new product you will be creating. What are the distinguishing characteristics of the segments? Look at demographics, psychographics, behavioral, geodemographics and any other segmentation variable for the segment. Create a persona of your segmented market.
Step 2. Create, on paper, a new product to target your identified market segment in step 1. You will then develop a written description and possibly a drawing of this new product. One key restriction is that your new product; cannot be a software product of any kind. Including but not limited to Apps, Programs, or Podcasts. It must be a tangible product.
Step 3. Prepare a survey to discuss this new product with five other people who might be users of your product. Ask them to tell you what they think of the product. Some of the questions you might ask include:
What is your overall opinion of this product?
What basic benefits would you expect to receive from the product?
What about the physical characteristics of the product? What do you like and dislike? What would you add, delete or change?
What do you like (or would you create) in the way of product packaging?
What sort of services would you expect to receive with the product?
Do you think you would try the product?
How could marketers influence you to buy the product?
How much would you expect to pay for this product?
Step 4. Submit the following:
Target segment: Full definition of your persona and market segment. Presentation of the persona you have defined with all the details within the demographics, psychographics, behavioral, geodemographics and any other segmentation variable for the persona.
Product Development: Present a one-page with all the details and descriptions of the product.
Market Research: Present the survey you will be using to conduct the market research and get feedback from the personas you are targeting.
