Imagine that you have been offered a position in a school you worked in during placement. You know the school policies and procedures well, understand the student demographic, and will be working with a cohort of students you taught during placement. You are excited and start planning and programming. You remember from all your experiences the importance of classroom management and student wellbeing. You are responsible for ensuring a safe and productive learning environment for all students.
What you need to do: Plan effective classroom management and student wellbeing strategies for your first experiences as a registered teacher. How to do this: Prepare an audio-visual presentation to demonstrate your ability to apply theory to practice for effective classroom management and student wellbeing. Prince of Peace Lutheran College (Kindergarten to year 12) is a co-educational independent Christian College; the preschool is in the Northern suburbs of Brisbane, only 12km from the Brisbane CBD. The College educates around 900 students from surrounding suburbs, including Eaton’s Hill, Albany Creek, Bridgeman Downs, Keperra, and Samford, along with fully accredited Kindergarten and Out of School Hours Care facilities. In the year 4-5 classroom, there are 25 children 60 percent of the children speak English as a first language, 20 percent have English as a second language with children from different backgrounds and countries, including China, India, Europe, Japan, and Spanish countries (Mexico, Spain, Colombia), and 10 percent are aboriginal students and children with additional needs and 4 children in the classroom have learning difficulties like ADHD and Dyslexia.

Maintaining or reinforcing a positive classroom is vital in today’s learning environment. Research has revealed that a positive classroom environment can increase student engagement and motivation. Students who feel supported and safe can participate actively in class and take risks in their learning. Similarly, a supportive classroom environment improves academic performance. Studies have revealed that students are more likely to perform well academically when they feel respected and valued. Further, a positive classroom environment can enhance students’ confidence and self-esteem, increasing their willingness to participate and share their ideas. Lastly, Positive reinforcement can reduce behavioral problems as students understand the norms and expectations stipulated by the teacher.
