Part One: Write an 8-10 paragraph essay (roughly three to four pages, double-spaced) that discusses the author’s style and effectiveness as a communicator. Apply the following structure and requirements:
Introduction (10 pts)
Introduce the author, the name of the book, the company, its products/services, its achievements, the author’s big idea(s), etc.
Make an appropriate transition to the thesis statement (see below).
Conclude the introduction with a dual thesis statement: one part to identify the author’s communication style; the other part to evaluate their effectiveness as a communicator.
Body (45 pts)
Write at least three body paragraphs (up to four) that support the thesis about the author’s communication style.
Write at least three body paragraphs (up to four) that support the thesis about the author’s effectiveness as a communicator.
Begin each body paragraph with a topic sentence that supports the relevant part of the thesis (either style or effectiveness).
For each body paragraph, provide at least two examples from the book that substantiate the topic sentence.Note: one of the examples must be a citation: i.e., either a quote or a paraphrase.
Preface each example with context so that it will make sense and deliver the intended impact.
Conclusion (5 pts)
Begin by re-stating the thesis.
Summarize the supporting points.
Prepare for and end on a new, final thought.
Writing (40 pts)
Technical: grammar, punctuation, typos, MLA format
Style: clear expressions, avoiding clichés, keeping concise, using active voice
