I was inspired to explore the effects of excessive exposure to electronic devices because of my observation with my niece and how dependent she is on her iPad. At seven years old, she has difficulty sleeping and is currently on melatonin. She is obese for her age, as per her provider, and now wears prescribed glasses to aid her vision. Additionally, the lack of structure provided by her parents further propelled me to explore if there is a direct link between excessive electronic device usage, poor parental structure, and my niece’s overall health and wellness.

(2024) carried out a series of experiments among 87 parents and students of various age groups resulting in a shocking 30% being introduced to electronic devices within their first year of life, 29.9% by age two, and 34.5% by the age of three (Kobeljal et al., 2024). Using these statistical data will help to investigate the impacts of over-exposing kids further to screening during their most formidable years and how it can potentially affect their mental health, leading to shorter attention spans, trouble socializing, stunted cognitive abilities, increased anxiety, and lack interest in physical activities. Therefore, analyzing the stats is vital to understanding the increase in screen time and how it affects the well-being and development of our youths.
